Noodling

Noodling is a hands-on fishing method, mostly practiced in the southern United States, in which a person reaches into underwater holes or crevices to catch catfish barehanded, letting the fish bite onto their hand or arm before pulling it out of the water. It is considered a dangerous, adrenaline-driven folk tradition since noodlers risk encountering snapping turtles, snakes, or injury from the fish itself, and it is illegal in some states due to conservation concerns. Enthusiasts are drawn to its raw, primal challenge and its roots in rural Southern culture, popularized further by television shows and competitions.
