Medieval Dance

Medieval dance refers to the social and ceremonial dance forms practiced in Europe roughly from the 5th to the 15th century, including court dances, round dances (carols), and folk dances performed at festivals and feasts. Much of what is known comes from illustrated manuscripts, chronicles, and later Renaissance dance treatises, since detailed notation from the period itself is scarce. Modern historical dance enthusiasts and reenactment groups study and perform reconstructed versions of these dances at Renaissance faires and living-history events.
