Gliding
Gliding is a form of aviation in which pilots fly engineless aircraft called gliders or sailplanes, launched by a winch, tow plane, or self-launch, and then sustain flight by riding rising air currents such as thermals, ridge lift, or wave lift. Pilots and clubs practice it both as a competitive cross-country racing sport and as a recreational pastime valued for its quiet, skillful interaction with weather and air currents. It requires specialized training and licensing similar to powered flight.
