Eight-String Guitar

An eight-string guitar is an extended-range guitar with two additional strings beyond the standard six, usually tuned lower to expand the instrument's bass range and harmonic possibilities. It is popular in progressive metal, djent, and modern jazz fusion, where players use the extra low strings for heavier riffing and expanded chordal voicings. Well-known players such as Tosin Abasi and Meshuggah's guitarists helped popularize the instrument.
