Dry-Tooling

Dry-tooling is a climbing discipline in which climbers use ice axes and crampons to ascend bare rock rather than ice or snow, hooking the tools onto rock edges, cracks, and pockets. It emerged as a way for ice and mixed climbers to train and compete on rock during summer months, and has since developed into its own competitive sport with dedicated routes and gyms. It demands strong upper-body power and precise tool placement, appealing to climbers who enjoy technical, gymnastic movement.
