Cnapan

Cnapan is an ancient, rough Welsh folk football game historically played between neighboring parishes or villages, in which large numbers of players tried to move a wooden or boiled ball (the 'cnapan') across the countryside toward a goal, often a church or a rival village. It had few rules and could last for hours over open fields, making it a chaotic ancestor of modern football and rugby. The game largely died out by the 19th century but is occasionally revived for historical demonstrations in Wales.
