Chess960

Chess960, also called Fischer Random Chess, is a chess variant invented by former world champion Bobby Fischer in which the back-rank pieces are randomly shuffled into one of 960 possible starting positions (subject to a few placement rules), while pawns start in their normal squares. The variant reduces the value of memorized opening theory and forces players to rely more on original strategic thinking from the very first moves, and it now has its own official world championship.
