Calcio Fiorentino

Calcio Fiorentino, or Florentine football, is a violent, historic team sport originating in 16th-century Florence, Italy, blending elements of soccer, rugby, wrestling, and boxing. Two teams of 27 players try to get a ball into the opposing team's goal using virtually any part of the body, with few restrictions on physical contact. It is revived today as an annual pageant-like tournament held each June in Florence's Piazza Santa Croce, drawing enthusiasts of historical reenactment and extreme contact sports.
