Human Relations Movement
Business and Management
The Human Relations Movement was a mid-20th-century management philosophy, emerging from the Hawthorne studies of the 1920s-30s led by Elton Mayo, that emphasized worker morale, social needs, and interpersonal dynamics as key drivers of productivity. It shifted management thinking away from the purely mechanistic principles of scientific management (Taylorism) toward recognizing employees as social beings motivated by recognition, group belonging, and communication. It laid the intellectual groundwork for modern organizational behavior and human resources practices.
