Arterial Blood Gas Analysis

A clinical laboratory test that measures the pH, oxygen, and carbon dioxide levels in arterial blood to assess a patient's respiratory function and acid-base balance. It is performed and interpreted by nurses, respiratory therapists, and physicians, especially in critical care and emergency settings, to guide decisions about ventilator settings and oxygen therapy. Drawing the sample typically involves puncturing the radial or femoral artery.
