California Added 440 New Roles This Week, Nearly Double Last Week's 223 | Career App Daily

California logged 440 new roles this week across the employer job boards we track, up from 223 the week before — a 97% increase and the largest state total on the site by a wide margin.

That is the headline. The footnote is that California grew slower than the boards as a whole. Nationally, the boards we track opened 3,018 new roles this week against 1,267 the prior week, a 138% jump. So California roughly doubled while the wider set of boards more than doubled, and California's share of new postings slipped from 17.6% to 14.6%.

Where California sits against the other states

Jobs in California sat ahead of New York (278 new, from 185) and Texas (161, from 47). Together California and New York accounted for 718 of the week's 3,018 new roles — just under a quarter.

One scope note worth stating plainly: the 12 states with openings on the site accounted for 1,343 of the 3,018 new roles this week. The remaining roughly 1,675 postings carry no state we can pin to them, so the state view is a partial cut of the week, not the whole of it. California is the biggest slice of the part we can locate.

The fastest movers by ratio were elsewhere. Georgia went from 11 to 83, Florida from 28 to 92, and Oregon from 13 to 41 — all small bases, so the percentages are loud and the volumes are quiet. Only two states fell: Pennsylvania (57 to 40) and Idaho, which posted 46 both weeks.

What we can and can't say about who's hiring in California

The brief asked which employers and occupations drove California's week. Honestly: the packet doesn't split employer or occupation counts by state, and the weekly occupation list came back empty this run. So we won't guess.

What we can report is who posted most across all boards this week, nationally:

• Target — 327 new, 600 open
• Citigroup — 315 new, 495 open
• Aritzia — 313 new, 319 open
• NVIDIA — 176 new, 832 open
• Boeing — 170 new, 606 open
• Accenture — 169 new, 593 open

Those six alone opened 1,470 roles, close to half the national week. Aritzia is the sharpest case: 313 of its 319 open listings are new this week, meaning essentially its entire visible board turned over in seven days. Levi Strauss & Co. shows the opposite pattern — 95 new against 979 open, a large standing board with modest weekly movement. None of those figures are California-specific.

For pay, the site-wide posted-salary medians (employer-posted ranges annualized to USD, hourly at 2,080 hours, across all states) run highest in engineering leadership: Engineering Manager at $280,000 across 240 listings and Machine Learning Engineer at $280,000 across 118. The deepest pool is Software Engineer at $240,000 median over 1,291 listings. Sales Representative is the outlier at the bottom, $80,918 over 180 listings.

Context for the whole week

The site holds 56,995 open listings from 693 employers hiring. Over the last seven days, 12,200 listings opened and 22,480 closed — postings are coming off the boards faster than they go on, which is worth keeping in mind before reading any single state's rise as expansion. Remote was 4% of new postings.

The week-over-week comparison counts only boards we were already tracking before the comparison began, so newly added boards can't inflate it. The 30-day comparison in this run is unusable — the prior 30-day figure is 2 postings, an artifact of coverage ramping up, not a real baseline. We're not going to dress that up as growth.
