Production Planner
A Production Planner schedules manufacturing activities to match customer demand with available capacity, using ERP systems and demand forecasting to determine what gets produced and when. Sitting within supply chain or operations departments, this role coordinates closely with procurement and warehouse teams to balance inventory management against production scheduling constraints. Strong supply chain coordination skills help planners avoid both stockouts and excess inventory across the production cycle.
Duties & responsibilities
- Schedule manufacturing activities and work orders based on customer demand and available production capacity
- Develop and maintain production plans using ERP and MRP systems to translate forecasts into executable schedules
- Coordinate with procurement to resolve material shortages and manage bill of materials
- Manage work-in-process inventory and material flow across production teams and facilities
- Monitor production plans against changing priorities and engineering constraints, adjusting schedules as needed
- Partner with supply chain, manufacturing, and engineering teams to align capacity with program requirements
- Analyze capacity constraints and communicate scheduling limitations to cross-functional stakeholders
