Mental Health Technician
A mental health technician works on the front lines of psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment centers, or crisis units, providing direct supervision and support to patients experiencing acute mental illness. Their responsibilities include continuous patient monitoring, crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to safely manage agitated or at-risk individuals, and documenting observations in electronic health records (EHR) for the clinical team. Most hold CPR/First Aid certification and a high school diploma or associate degree, often as a stepping stone toward nursing or counseling careers.
