Occupation
Guidance Counselor
A Guidance Counselor works within a K-12 school system to support students' academic, social, and emotional development, dividing time between individual and group counseling sessions and broader student services. Key responsibilities include college and career advising, coordinating IEP/504 plans for students with special needs, and managing student records through Student Information Systems (SIS). Because schools are frequently the first place a student's crisis surfaces, guidance counselors are also trained in crisis intervention to respond to mental health emergencies, bullying, or family issues.
