What this role is

This role leads the technical strategy for Anthropic's compute cluster infrastructure, owning the full lifecycle of provisioning, updates, and decommissioning across cloud and datacenter environments at unprecedented scale. It's suited to a seasoned infrastructure engineer who has operated hyperscale systems and can set direction across multiple teams while building operational excellence practices.

What they ask for

Required

Deep expertise in distributed systems, reliability, and cloud platforms
Strong proficiency in at least one systems language (Rust, Go, or Python)
IaC proficiency with Terraform
Track record of leading complex multi-quarter technical initiatives spanning multiple teams or systems
Ability to build alignment across senior stakeholders and communicate effectively at all levels

Nice to have

10+ years of software engineering experience including time as a technical lead
Experience operating large-scale compute infrastructure at hyperscale (100+ clusters, 10K+ nodes)
Depth in Kubernetes internals, cluster provisioning and management systems, or cluster orchestration systems
Experience with cloud networking (VPC design, peering, Cloud Interconnect, BGP, edge load balancing, DDoS mitigation)
Experience with cluster and host networking (CNI, eBPF, NetworkPolicy, multi-NIC, sFlow, service mesh)
Experience with cluster security (pod security standards, admission control, RBAC, node and container hardening, image provenance)
Deep experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Atlantis) and workflow orchestration (Temporal, Argo Workflows)
Skill in understanding systems design tradeoffs and tracking rapidly evolving software systems
