The recreational activity of exploring abandoned, hidden, off-limits, or rarely seen man-made structures such as derelict buildings, tunnels, drains, and industrial ruins, often to photograph or document them. Practitioners, sometimes called 'urbexers,' are drawn by curiosity about decay and history, the thrill of trespass, and the aesthetic of forgotten spaces, though the hobby carries legal and safety risks.
