Cluster Ballooning

Cluster ballooning is a personal aviation hobby in which a pilot rides in a harness or lawn chair suspended beneath a large cluster of helium- or air-filled balloons rather than a single traditional balloon envelope. Pilots ascend and descend by releasing individual balloons or venting gas, and the activity gained public fame after Californian truck driver Larry Walters flew a lawn chair rigged with weather balloons in 1982. It remains a rare, largely unregulated form of amateur flight practiced by a small community of enthusiasts.
