Uppies and Downies

A traditional, largely rule-free mob football game played annually in Workington, England, in which two teams, the Uppies and the Downies (representing different parts of town), compete to carry a ball to goals at opposite ends of town through the streets. Dating back centuries, it is a chaotic, physical folk football contest with minimal restrictions on tactics, reflecting older pre-codified forms of football played across Britain.
