Speed Reading

Speed reading refers to a set of techniques aimed at increasing reading rate while trying to retain reasonable comprehension, including skimming, reducing subvocalization (silently sounding out words), minimizing regression (re-reading), and training the eyes to take in larger chunks of text per fixation. It appeals to students, professionals, and lifelong learners who want to process large volumes of text more efficiently, though critics note that comprehension often trades off against very high speeds.
