Sawanobori

Sawanobori, meaning "river climbing" in Japanese, is a mountaineering discipline in which participants ascend mountain streams, riverbeds, and waterfalls rather than dry rock or trails. It combines elements of hiking, rock climbing, and swimming, using ropes and climbing gear to negotiate wet rock and cascades, and is especially popular in Japan's forested mountain regions.
