Outrigger Canoeing

Outrigger canoeing is a paddling sport using canoes stabilized by one or more lateral floats (amas) attached via spars, originating from Polynesian and other Pacific Islander seafaring traditions. Crews of typically six paddlers race in long, narrow hulls over ocean or flatwater courses, requiring coordinated, synchronized paddling technique. It remains a significant cultural practice in Hawaii and the Pacific Islands and has grown into a competitive sport worldwide.
