Match Play

Match play is a golf scoring format in which players or teams compete hole-by-hole, winning, losing, or tying each hole rather than counting total strokes across the round (as in stroke play). The player or side that wins the most holes wins the match, which can end before all holes are played if a lead becomes mathematically insurmountable. It's the format used in events like the Ryder Cup and many club championships, prized for its head-to-head tactical drama.
