La Soule
La soule is a traditional French folk ball game dating back to the Middle Ages, played between two teams or entire villages trying to carry, kick, or throw a ball (often leather-covered and stuffed) to a goal, with very few rules and matches sometimes covering large stretches of countryside. It is considered one of the ancestral folk games that influenced the later development of both rugby and association football. Today it survives mainly as a revived folkloric or ceremonial activity in parts of France rather than a widely played sport.
