Kite flying is the recreational activity of launching and controlling a tethered fabric-and-frame craft in the wind, often simply for the pleasure of watching it soar and maneuvering it on a string. It ranges from casual play with children in a park to competitive fighter-kite contests and artistic kite festivals, and it has ancient origins in China thousands of years ago.
