Indigenous North American Stickball

Indigenous North American stickball is a traditional team sport played by Native peoples such as the Choctaw, Cherokee, and other southeastern and Great Lakes tribes, using wooden sticks tipped with a small net or pouch to catch, carry, and throw a ball toward a goal. Considered an ancestor of modern lacrosse and historically called the "little brother of war" for its role in resolving disputes between communities, it remains played today both ceremonially and competitively as a marker of cultural heritage.
