Hybrid Codes

In sport, a term for games or competitions that combine the rules of two related but distinct codes into a single hybrid rule set, such as international rules football (a hybrid of Australian rules and Gaelic football) or shinty-hurling. These hybrids are usually devised to allow international or cross-cultural competition between countries whose national sports evolved separately but share common ancestry.
