Harry Potter is a series of seven fantasy novels by British author J.K. Rowling, published between 1997 and 2007, following a young wizard, Harry Potter, and his friends at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as they confront the dark wizard Lord Voldemort. The books spawned a hugely successful film franchise, theme parks, stage plays, and merchandise, and following the series as a fan (through re-reading, collecting memorabilia, cosplay, or fan fiction) has become a popular hobby for enthusiasts worldwide.
