Gridiron Football

Gridiron football is an umbrella term for American football and Canadian football, so named because the yard lines and hash marks historically made the field resemble a gridiron (a cooking grate pattern). It is a high-contact team sport involving offense, defense, and special teams units competing to advance an oval ball into the opponent's end zone.
