Windows Embedded
IT Infrastructure and Networking
Windows Embedded is a family of Microsoft operating systems designed for specialized, resource-constrained devices such as point-of-sale terminals, ATMs, industrial machines, and handheld computers, rather than general-purpose desktop PCs. It provided a smaller footprint and customizable feature set tailored to the hardware and function of embedded devices, and was used by manufacturers and systems integrators building dedicated-purpose devices. The product line has since evolved into Windows IoT, reflecting Microsoft's focus on Internet of Things applications.
