Variables

Programming Languages

In programming and mathematics, a variable is a named storage location that holds a value which can change during the execution of a program or the course of a calculation. Programmers use variables to store data such as numbers, text, or objects and reference them throughout their code, while in statistics and science, variables represent measurable characteristics that can differ across observations. Understanding variables is foundational to virtually all coding, data analysis, and experimental design.
