Operational databases (also called OLTP databases) are systems designed to manage and process real-time transactional data generated by day-to-day business operations, such as order processing, inventory updates, and customer records. Examples include MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle Database, optimized for fast reads, writes, and data integrity rather than complex analytical queries. Software engineers and database administrators design and maintain these systems to support applications requiring high availability and consistency.
