Jaw Harp

Music and Audio Production

The jaw harp (also called a Jew's harp) is a small lyre-shaped instrument held against the teeth or lips, played by plucking a flexible metal or bamboo tongue while using the mouth cavity as a resonator to shape the pitch and overtones. It produces a distinctive twanging sound and is found in folk music traditions across the world, from Central Asia to Europe and the Americas. Hobbyists enjoy it for its portability, meditative playing technique, and connection to ancient, cross-cultural musical traditions.
