Intrusion Detection and Prevention

Cybersecurity

Intrusion detection and prevention refers to cybersecurity systems and practices that monitor network or system traffic for malicious activity or policy violations and take action to block or alert on them. Intrusion detection systems (IDS) flag suspicious behavior, while intrusion prevention systems (IPS) can actively block attacks in real time; security analysts and network engineers configure and monitor these tools to protect organizational infrastructure. This skill set is central to roles in information security, network administration, and security operations centers (SOCs).
