Intravenous Therapy

Healthcare and Medical

Intravenous (IV) therapy is the administration of fluids, medications, blood products, or nutrients directly into a patient's vein using a needle or catheter. Nurses and other healthcare providers use it to deliver treatments quickly and precisely, such as antibiotics, chemotherapy, pain medication, or hydration, especially when oral administration is not possible or fast action is needed. Proficiency in IV therapy, including starting lines and monitoring for complications, is a core clinical skill in nursing and emergency medicine.
