Harmonium

Music and Audio Production

The harmonium is a free-reed keyboard instrument that produces sound by air pushed through reeds via foot- or hand-pumped bellows, giving it a distinctive sustained, organ-like tone. It plays a central role in Indian classical, devotional (bhajan and kirtan), and folk music, as well as in some Western church and parlor music traditions. Players are drawn to its ability to accompany vocals with drone-like chords while singing simultaneously.
