Geostatistics is a branch of statistics focused on analyzing and predicting spatially and temporally correlated data, such as mineral concentrations, rainfall, or soil properties, using techniques like kriging and variogram analysis. Mining engineers, hydrologists, and environmental scientists use geostatistics to estimate resource quantities, model uncertainty across a geographic area, and interpolate values at unsampled locations from limited field data. It is heavily used in mineral exploration, petroleum reservoir modeling, and environmental monitoring.
