Breakdancing, or breaking, is an athletic street dance style that originated in the Bronx in the 1970s as part of hip-hop culture, characterized by acrobatic moves such as power moves, footwork, freezes, and top rock performed to breakbeats. Breakdancers (b-boys and b-girls) often compete in battles judged on creativity, musicality, and technical skill, and the dance form has grown into a global subculture and competitive sport, notably debuting at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
