Application Level Gateway

IT Infrastructure and Networking

An Application Level Gateway (ALG) is a type of firewall or proxy component that inspects and manages traffic for specific application-layer protocols, such as FTP or SIP, often to handle complexities like dynamic port negotiation through NAT. Network engineers and security professionals use ALGs to enable certain protocols to function correctly across firewalled or translated networks.
