Formerly organized as NorthWestern Corporation, it reorganized under a new holding company, NorthWestern Energy Group, in 2023, and as of mid-2026 has an announced but not yet completed all-stock merger agreement with Black Hills Corporation to form 'Bright Horizon Energy Corporation.'
