Peterman Company is an American mail-order and e-commerce retailer founded in 1987 by John Peterman, selling apparel, accessories, luggage, and home goods with distinctive narrative-style catalog copy and illustrations. The company famously filed for bankruptcy in 1999 and was later reacquired by its founder, and it gained cultural notoriety from a fictionalized version of Peterman appearing as a character on the sitcom Seinfeld.
