Bridgeport Machines, Inc. is the maker of the iconic Bridgeport vertical milling machine, first produced in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1938 and widely cloned as the standard configuration for manual milling machines worldwide. The company was acquired by Textron in 1968 and later by Hardinge Inc. in 2004, which continued manufacturing Bridgeport-brand mills as part of its machine tool portfolio.
