CNC Machinist

CNC Machinists set up and operate computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines—primarily mills and lathes—to produce precision metal and nonmetal parts according to technical drawings and specifications. Duties & responsibilities

  • Operate CNC machinery to produce precision metal and nonmetal parts while monitoring production runs and adjusting settings as needed
  • Read blueprints and technical drawings to understand part specifications, tolerances, and machining requirements
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators to verify quality and tolerance
  • Edit and verify G-code and M-code programs, sometimes collaborating with engineering teams on process improvements
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues, tool wear, and production problems to maintain consistent output and part quality
  • Set up custom fixtures and verify first-article inspections to ensure machining processes meet specifications
