Required
- J.D. and active bar membership in at least one U.S. state (California preferred)
- Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements
- Ability to provide clear, practical legal guidance on complex commercial law to non-lawyers
Nice to have
- Experience supporting research collaborations, sponsored research, or grant-giving programs
- Knowledge of AI technology and AI policy with commitment to responsible AI development
- Background in biotech, clinical research, or life sciences transactions
- Familiarity with grant-making and grant-funded arrangements including funding terms and compliance
- Experience advising non-profit foundations, academic institutions, or industry trade groups
- Comfort advising research teams outside standard commercial structures
- Strong communication and ability to translate legal concepts for non-legal audiences
- Collaborative working style with colleagues and external partners
- Experience with multi-stakeholder agreements involving technical and policy considerations
- Adaptability in fast-paced, shifting-priority environments
- Experience with SaaS or other technology transactions
