What they ask for

Required

  • 5+ years of data engineering or analytics engineering experience
  • Built and owned a dimensional model in production
  • Strong SQL proficiency
  • Experience with document-based databases like MongoDB and analytical data warehouses
  • Star schema and dimensional modeling expertise
  • Hands-on experience with modern transformation frameworks like dbt or Dataform
  • Built and maintained ETL/ELT pipelines
  • Worked with orchestration tools like Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect
  • Experience with data ingestion or event streaming platforms
  • Understanding of data modeling best practices and performance optimization
  • Track record of operating systems you didn't build
  • Focus on data quality, validation, and governance
  • Can explain technical tradeoffs to non-engineers

Nice to have

  • Change data capture patterns from operational databases
  • Subscription billing data experience
  • Distributed processing frameworks like Spark, Beam, or Dataflow
  • First or early data hire experience
