- 5+ years of data engineering or analytics engineering experience
- Built and owned a dimensional model in production
- Strong SQL proficiency
- Experience with document-based databases like MongoDB and analytical data warehouses
- Star schema and dimensional modeling expertise
- Hands-on experience with modern transformation frameworks like dbt or Dataform
- Built and maintained ETL/ELT pipelines
- Worked with orchestration tools like Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect
- Experience with data ingestion or event streaming platforms
- Understanding of data modeling best practices and performance optimization
- Track record of operating systems you didn't build
- Focus on data quality, validation, and governance
- Can explain technical tradeoffs to non-engineers
