What they ask for
Required
- 4+ years of payroll tax experience with focus on tax defect resolution
- Expert knowledge of State and Federal payroll tax notice types
- Experience preparing and approving amended Federal and State payroll tax returns across multiple states
- Deep knowledge of federal payroll tax law and penalty/interest structures
- Multi-state payroll tax expertise including reciprocal agreements and local tax compliance
- Prior experience as a lead, senior specialist, or SME with coaching/training examples
- Knowledge of federal and state tax payment and filing regulations across US jurisdictions
- Advanced Excel skills for reconciliation and audit work
- Strong written communication skills for SOPs and knowledge base articles
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business, or equivalent experience
Nice to have
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or FPC with 5+ years tax defect resolution experience
- Enrolled Agent (EA) credential
- Experience at a payroll service bureau, PEO, or multi-client payroll tax operations environment
- CPP expected within 18 months if not already held
