What this role is

This role leads Relativity Space's avionics survivability engineering efforts for their Terran R rocket, ensuring electrical and electronic systems survive the extreme environments of launch and spaceflight. You'll oversee electromagnetic compatibility, radiation effects, and component reliability across the vehicle while coordinating with propulsion, structures, and flight software teams to establish requirements and drive qualification campaigns.

What they ask for

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 7+ years of survivability engineering experience in harsh environments and mission-critical applications
  • Technical expertise in at least two of: EMC/EMI, radiation effects, or EEE component reliability
  • Working knowledge of space environment effects including radiation, vacuum, and thermal extremes
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Experience defining survivability requirements and driving risk assessments and mitigation strategies
  • Experience planning and overseeing complex test programs including EMC and radiation testing

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Hands-on experience with EMC test facilities, radiation test facilities, or environmental test chambers
  • Electromagnetic simulation tools experience (CST, FEKO, HFSS)
  • Parts selection, derating, and reliability prediction methodologies (FMECA, Reliability Block Diagrams)
  • SEE mitigation techniques knowledge (EDAC, triple modular redundancy, radiation-hardened design)
  • Destructive physical analysis and electronic component failure analysis experience
  • Familiarity with launch vehicle or spacecraft-specific standards (SMC-S-016, SSCMAN 91-710, RCC319-19, NASA-STD-8739.10)
  • Experience establishing test facilities or qualification infrastructure
