What this role is

This role involves designing and operating cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes platforms across public cloud, private data centers, and air-gapped environments to support BlackSky's satellite intelligence delivery. It suits experienced infrastructure or platform engineers who are comfortable with AWS, multiple Kubernetes distributions, and GitOps practices in complex, regulated environments.

What they ask for

Required

  • At least 5 years infrastructure, platform, DevOps or SRE engineering experience
  • At least 3 years running Kubernetes in production
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent experience
  • Strong hands-on AWS experience across networking, compute, storage and IAM
  • Production experience with EKS, Rancher/RKE2 or OpenShift
  • GitOps experience with Argo CD or Flux
  • Ability to author and maintain Helm charts
  • Strong Terraform infrastructure-as-code skills
  • Linux systems administration and scripting proficiency
  • Experience with hardened base images and supply-chain security
  • Production monitoring with Prometheus and Grafana
  • Clear communication and ability to work independently
  • U.S. citizen or eligible for ITAR authorization

Nice to have

  • Experience across all three Kubernetes distributions
  • Kubernetes in edge or resource-constrained environments
  • Air-gapped deployment experience with Zarf
  • Container and image scanning tools
  • Secrets management and PKI automation
  • Persistent storage at scale experience
  • OpenTelemetry instrumentation
  • Centralized log aggregation with Elasticsearch/OpenSearch
  • Government or compliance program experience

  • Relevant certifications
