- Strong Python proficiency and scientific programming experience
- ML fundamentals knowledge and ability to adopt ML development practices
- Deep modern biology knowledge including assays, functional characterization, gene synthesis, genome editing, strain construction, and protein engineering
- Ability to build and maintain own tooling
- Experience designing quantitative experiments and drawing conclusions from noisy results
- Strong analytical and technical writing skills
- Familiarity with biosecurity frameworks including select agent regulations and the Biological Weapons Convention
- Independent work capability with strong cross-functional collaboration
- Results-oriented with flexibility and impact focus
Nice to have
- Experience with large language models including prompting, fine-tuning, or evaluation
- Production classifier or ML system deployment experience
- ML methods development for biological systems or data
- Adversarial robustness or ML safety evaluation experience
- At least 8 years hands-on life sciences experience with deep expertise in molecular biology, drug discovery, or computational biology
- Experience leading complex technical projects across multiple stakeholder groups
