What this role is

Anthropic's Data Infrastructure team is hiring a Staff+ engineer to design and operate secure, scalable data systems that support company-wide analytics, financial reporting, and access control. This role suits experienced infrastructure engineers who thrive solving complex challenges across cloud storage, data warehousing, and security at petabyte scale.

What they ask for

Required

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience building data infrastructure, storage systems, or distributed systems
  • 3+ years leading large-scale complex projects or teams as an engineer or tech lead
  • Ability to set technical direction for a team
  • Proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or similar programming languages
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools and cloud platforms
  • Navigate technical tradeoffs between performance, cost, security, and maintainability
  • Strong collaboration skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Nice to have

  • Experience with security and compliance requirements (ITGC, GDPR, financial controls)
  • Background in data warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines, or analytics infrastructure
  • Kubernetes and cloud-native architecture experience
  • Track record of improving data reliability, availability, or cost efficiency at scale
  • Knowledge of column-oriented databases, OLAP systems, or big data processing frameworks
  • Experience in fintech, financial services, or regulated industries
  • Security engineering background focused on data protection and access controls
