Senterej

Senterej is the traditional Ethiopian variant of chess, historically related to the medieval Persian-Arabic game shatranj rather than modern international chess. It is played on an 8x8 board with pieces representing similar roles to chess (king, ministers, elephants, horses, boats, and soldiers) but follows distinct regional rules, and it remains a culturally significant pastime in Ethiopia.
